Governor Greg Abbott has been a central figure in Texas politics, well known for his conservative stance and resilient leadership. Greg Abbott succeeded Rick Perry after he announced he would not seek a fifth term as Texas Governor.
Greg Abbott defeated Democrat Senator Wendy Davis at the 2014 general election to become the 48th Governor of Texas. Abbott was officially sworn in on January 20, 2015.

On June 11, 2015, Governor Abbott signed the Pastor Protection Act, which allows faith leaders the right to refuse same-sex marriage ceremonies if they feel in violation of their beliefs.
